For Racine Case High School
first generation college students

two-year scholarship

Now with 3rd-year Book scholarship

This scholarship rewards high potential, first generation post-secondary students with funding toward their college/post-secondary education.

The Case Class of ‘74 scholarship is awarded each year to a Case student who shows academic promise and is the first in their family to go on to college, university or technical school. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior each year in the amount of $1974/year for two years. A third year Book Scholarship is added in 2024/25 of $1000.

The scholarship fund is sustained by donations from Classmates and Friends of the Class of ’74. Post-secondary education is vital in today’s economy for young people to establish their independence and self-sufficiency.

When asked what was the speed of sound, Albert Einstein said: “I do not carry such information in my mind since it is readily available in books. The value of a college education is not the cramming of many facts but the training of the mind to think.”

Messages from Case ‘74 Scholars - June 2024

Jordan Petrick -2020 Recipient - 2024 University of Wisconsin graduate, pursuing Medical School in 2025

I recently graduated from UW-Madison in May of this year with a bachelor of science. Throughout college I was a double major which consisted of Biology and Global Health with a pre-med focus. Some additional things that I was involved in during my last two years are listed below:

 - President of the Pre-Student of Osteopathic Medical Association, a club that focuses on bringing awareness to what a Doctor of Osteopathic medicine is. As president, I organized free events for our members including Naloxone (Narcan) training, Epinephrine (Epi Pen) training, and CPR certification. Each of these events certified participants to administer the above listed medication and/or perform the life saving action while being protected under the good samaritan law. While I was president, our UW-Madison chapter won the Most Outstanding Chapter Award in the eastern region! This is something that I am very proud of as the club is very small and still working to recruit more members.

Volunteer Trainer: At "Our Lady of Hope Clinic" I began as a volunteer in September of 2022, but then was quickly promoted to a trainer. OLHC is a non profit clinic that cares for those who are uninsured. At this clinic I performed phlebotomy, took vitals, prepared medications, recorded EKGs, communicated with patients, etc. I am still involved with this organization during my break between undergrad and medical school.

Practice Manager: In January of 2024, I accepted a part time job offer for two PM&R physicians that own their own private practice. The 3 of us are the only employees and are working to expand into the wellness space. I mostly perform administrative and marketing tasks for them, but I also do some medical scribe work for legal cases.

Undergraduate Research: For 18 months, I conducted independent research in Coon Labs through the Department of Bacteriology at UW -Madison. I gained a lot of experience with antibiotic resistance testing, PCR, and DNA extraction.

Undergraduate TA: For Prof. Kerri Coon, I was an undergraduate TA for her disease biology course during the spring 2024 semester.

EST at SSM: I also have been working at a Level II trauma center in Madison, which is SSM Health. I have been an emergency services technician for 20 months and work directly with patients in the ER. I draw blood, perform EKGs, answer call lights, assist in the execution of treatment plans for stroke, trauma, and STEMI (heart attack) patients. I also perform CPR when necessary. This is the most rewarding, yet difficult job that I have ever expected. I am so glad that I work at SSM, because I have gained so much experience and think it will really help me stand out in my medical school applications.

Over the past 4 years I have gained roughly 2,500 hours of clinical patient care, completed 3 full semesters of undergraduate research, shadowed doctors for roughly 40 hours, and so much more. I now live in Sun Prairie, WI for the next year as I work at Thermo Fisher full time and apply to medical schools. I plan to matriculate in the fall of 2025 as the application process is almost a year long.

Anthony Ortiz - 2021 Recipient attends UW-Milwaukee

Ever since I received the Class of '74 scholarship in 2021, I have been working really hard at achieving my goal of going into Radiology. As of right now I am in my clinical portion of my 4 year degree. I was accepted just last March into the x-ray program at Ascension All Saints Hospital of Racine. Which just so happens to bet the hospital that I currently work for as a Imaging Assistant in the Radiology department. I am in my second week of clinical and I completely love the program. I am very happy with how far I have come as it has not been easy. With all that being said I look forward to pursuing my career in Radiology and can’t wait to obtain my Degree in Biomedical Sciences in the spring of 2026. I thank you guys for honoring me with this scholarship in 2021 as it definitely helped motivate me to pursue this career. And I hope you all continue to help out current Case high school students like you guys helped me.

Philip Allen - 2022 Recipient Attends Purdue University- Indianapolis

I’m doing well. I finished up my sophomore year and second semester with 19 credit hours. It feels great to know that I’m halfway done and when I go back, we will be mostly focusing on motorsports/engineering classes. I would like to say thank you for supporting me throughout my journey so far and being willing to help continue my journey.
