Cynthia Lopez is the 2024 Case Class of ’74 Scholarship recipient. She was selected from one of the strongest group of candidates the scholarship committee has evaluated. Her great enthusiasm for her education in the classroom, her volunteer work at school and the broader Racine community, as well as her strong work experience for the City of Racine were highlights of her evaluation.
At Case High, she was a member of the Case High School Honor Society and also active in the JI Case High School Latino Student Union. As a member of Racine Unified School District Cellphone Committee, Cynthia worked with students and the School Board to determine policies for the challenging questions around cellphone usage. She earned her OSHA-10 Healthcare and Construction Certifications which has given her insight into a number of potential career areas.
In Racine, Cynthia is a member of the City of Racine Sister City Planning Committee which meets monthly meetings to establish and maintain relationships with Racines sister cities. Cynthia has volunteered as a tutor at School of Hope Bilingual Literacy at Mitchell School and with Por la Gente Association to promote athletics in the Latino community of Racine through fund-raising events.
Cynthia was an intern in the City of Racine Youth Employment and was so well thought of she stayed on with a part-time job Student Assistant position in the Mayor’s office. Mayor Cory Mason writes, “Critical thinking, hardworking, organized creative, ability to engage and collaborate with people of various ages and backgrounds, always willing to learn something new, researching – these all describe Cynthia’s skills. But what strikes me as most compelling is her intrinsic passion to help others flourish.”
Cynthia will attend UW-Parkside in the fall with an interest in Marketing. She is also interested in her own or other business opportunities as she has OSHA certifications and wants to understand small business.
Congratulations to you Cynthia! The class of ’74 is excited for you, your future, and what you will do for the community of Racine.
